Myles Schutte
LPC-S, CSAT
I view counseling as a collaborative process where the client and counselor build a relationship of understanding and trust. Together, we work to identity current challenges, set meaningful goals for a more fulfilling life, and take intentional steps toward achieving those goals.

I have experience helping clients navigate a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, anger, codependency, sexual addictions, and sexual identity concerns. I approach these struggles as symptoms of deeper, underlying issues, and partner with you to uncover and address those root causes. I also specialize in working with individuals who have experienced sexual or emotional trauma, whether it is single-event, childhood, or ongoing trauma. To support healing, I have completed basic training in EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy), a proven method for processing overcoming trauma and PTSD. I strive to create a safe and supportive space to help you find freedom and healing.

My counseling style is eclectic and integrative, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These approaches provide practical tools, goal-setting strategies, and mindfulness techniques to support lasting change. Additionally, I am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), offering specialized support for individuals struggling with addiction.
As a Christian counselor, I offer a unique perspective for those who wish to incorporate biblical truth into their counseling journey. While I work from a biblically informed perspective, my role is not to impose my beliefs or values. I respect the religious and spiritual beliefs of all individuals, including those who may not identify with any faith tradition, and I am committed to working with anyone who seeks personal and relational growth.

Frequently asked questions
After completing my B.A. in Religion from Baylor University, I moved to New Orleans, where I spent four years completing a Master’s in Marriage and Family Counseling at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. My formal training at seminary taught me to integrates evidence-based counseling with a biblical faith perspective; judging each therapeutic approach through the lens of Scripture. My education background has shaped my belief in addressing the whole person – mind, body, and spirit – when guiding clients toward healing and growth.
During my time in New Orleans, I worked with clients facing common therapeutic challenges, such as anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and anger management. However, I quickly began to specialize in working with clients dealing with unwanted and compulsive sexual behaviors. This led me to launch a support group for individuals struggling with sexual addiction.

Through this work, I realized that sexual addiction is rarely just about sex. Instead, it often serves as a way to medicate pain and past hurts. Many of my clients had experienced profound emotional trauma or hardship, and their addictive behaviors were attempts to cope with that unresolved pain. I became deeply interested in the connection between trauma and addiction, discovering that processing trauma is a vital component of any recovery plan. To enhance my ability to support clients, I pursued additional training, completing EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Basic Training and earning certification as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. I regularly attend workshops and seminars to stay informed on the latest research in trauma recovery and addiction therapy.
Outside the counseling office, I enjoy spending time with my family and close friends. At home, my two energetic cats (Dexter and Deedee) keep me entertained, and I indulge in hobbies such as reading fiction and fantasy, keeping up with the latest superhero movies, gaming with friends, and playing my favorite instrument – the tuba.
